Birds & Biodiversity: An informal gathering for the Port Joli IBA

Residents and Friends, You’re Invited!

Where: Harrison Lewis Coastal Discovery Centre, 339 Sandy Bay Road, East Port l’Hebert, NS

What: Important Bird Areas (IBAs) are places of international significance for the conservation of birds and biodiversity and we are right in the midst of one! This event will bring people and groups together to learn more about the IBA program, the local Port Joli IBA, and its importance. There will be a presentation from Bird Studies Canada and an update on data about waterfowl in the area being captured by the MOTUS Wildlife Tracking System antenna at the Harrison Lewis Centre. A guided walk at low tide on Sandy Bay Beach observing migrating waterfowl will be followed by snacks and refreshments at the Centre. This will also be an opportunity to talk about “next steps.” What more might be done to raise awareness about and look after this valuable resource?
