Weekly topic description: In this Wild Wednesday event, we are looking 'Beyond the Sand' to explore not only the beauty, but ecological significance of beach and dune ecosystems. We will investigate the sandy intertidal habitat and some of the critters that call it home. We will also examine dune ecosystems, which act as flexible barriers to ocean storm surges and waves, helping to prevent erosion of areas behind the dunes. They also provide habitat for many animals like migratory birds, insects, and mammals. Stroll the shoreline with us at Carters Beach and join us to learn more about our extremely important and valuable sandy ecosystems! For those who join us for this Wild Wednesday, we will have an extra special surprise!
Registration: To register, contact Jessica at firstname.lastname@example.org or (902) 440-5503.
About Wild Wednesdays: Wild Wednesday involves a series of free educational guided nature hikes (approx. 1-2 hours) for kids and families, but accessible to people of all ages.
Previously, Wild Wednesday has been offered by the HLC at only one location. This year, Wild Wednesdays will be expanded to three locations, offering more opportunities to hike/explore various ecosystems in the area, including: 1) the HLC, 2) Thomas Raddall Provincial Park, and 3) Carter’s Beach. While walking/hiking easily accessible trails and/or coastline, each week focuses on a different theme. For more information about the Wild Wednesday program, click here
