N2O: Eco-Printing with Cindy Hagen

  • Harrison Lewis Coastal Discovery Centre 339 Sandy Bay Rd Port Joli Canada (map)

Our first N2O ("Never 2 Old") workshop of the 2019 season! Space is limited. Please email to register!

Eco-printing is a contemporary application of the traditions of natural dyeing. By extracting natural pigments from plant matter such as leaves and wildflowers, prints can be made on the fabric resulting in beautiful, organic patterns!

Led by local fabric artist, Cindy Hagen, this workshop will teach the process behind eco-printing. The day will start with a treasure hunt in the beautiful coastal wilderness surrounding the Harrison Lewis Centre to collect items for our prints. Then we will have fun getting creative arranging the plants on our pieces of fabric followed by an instructional tutorial demonstrating how to wrap, bundle, and steam the fabric to extract pigments. As our dye bundles are steaming, we will enjoy a homemade lunch. For dessert we will open our bundles to see what we have created! All participants are welcome to take their creations home!

A note on N2O programming: These FREE workshops are designed for older adults to foster life-long learning and provide opportunities to bring community members together! Participants will enjoy programming that encourages self-sufficiency, sustainability, outdoor physical activity and creativity.
