SUMMER SEASON: May 1-September 30
The Harrison Lewis Centre offers a unique wilderness retreat for groups of up to 20 people! The Centre is available for organized, primarily nature-based, retreats — e.g. for groups of painters, writers, photographers, naturalists. We have 5 rustic cabins to choose from, 3 of which have electricity, as well as space for tenting! There is Wi-fi at the centre as well!
Guests have access to the communal building, which contains: your full indoor kitchen, 2 bathrooms, laundry, work & relaxing space, a wood fireplace, & a downstairs lab area! The property also contains semi-outdoor showers for use, as well as 2 outhouses for the truly rustic experience.
Just a 5 minute walk down our trail is Sandy Bay beach & Thomas Raddall Provincial Park. Kejimkujik Seaside lays across the bay, only a short drive up Highway 3, then onto St. Catherines rd. The local area hosts a plethora plant and animal life for the ecological minded folks; migratory bird sanctuaries, endangered Piping Plover populations, lichens, tidal life, incredible geological specimens, and of course the more wary creatures, such as coyotes, a few moose (!), or our resident black bear! As always, when in the wilderness, respect to it's natural inhabitants and landscape is paramount. Do not approach potentially dangerous or endangered animals, and try to leave nothing behind but footprints!
Guests should bring: Their own food, sleeping bags, and bug repellent! Depending on your planned activities, waterproof and/or hiking boots are always a good idea as well.
Directions! We are located at 339 Sandy Bay rd, Port Joli (also shown on maps as Port L’Herbert). From Halifax, take highway 103 West until Exit 22. Turn left onto Exit 22, Highway 3, then continue until Port L'Herbert rd on the left. Follow Port L'Herbert rd for 8km (past Wharf rd) then turn left onto Sandy Bay rd (dirt road). Follow Sandy bay until Harrison Lewis Centre driveway on your left (small white sign on driveway).
